Unfriendly neighbours: A group of Indonesian nationalists blocking a road and stopping vehicles in search of Malaysian nationals in Jakarta yesterday. — AFP
Anti-Malaysian sentiments are running high in Indonesia. News agencies including Bernama and AFP have reported that a group of Indonesian men, armed with sharpened bamboos, has set up a road block to identify Malaysians. Passers-by in Jakarta's Jalan Diponegoro have been asked to show their IDs by these angry Indonesians.
The emotions have been fanned by the local Indonesian media which have blamed Malaysia for almost everything. Malaysians have been branded as "thieves" following the use of a Balinese dance in a documentary on Malaysia. Discovery Channel has since made a correction but the Indonesians are still angry.
Malaysians have also been branded as arrogant and in one case, a town experiencing traffic jam, a low budget air, presumably Air Asia, has been rapped for bringing in too many tourists. Last night, the Malaysian Students Department sent out SMS alerts to Malaysian students to avoid certain parts of Jakarta for their own safety.

Bukankah?
Adoiii...
Where did all this cow herd behavior comes from? Did Indonesia copy Malaysia, or vice versa, in this cow herd behavior? I think Rais Yatim should go interview the media people there and threaten to terminate their licences for inciting mob behavior.
Malaysia should stop taking maids and construction workers from Indonesia, and source from other countries. When there are too many foreigners from a specific country, it becomes a security concern, as well as weaken our bargaining position in their salaries. We should source from poorer countries like Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, or East Timor.
yeah yeah, Malaysian nowadays never know that Indonesian hates Malaysian very much since the Malaysia confrontation followed by Malaysia formation in the 60's. were Indonesia that day wish to conquer Malaysia to form the bigger Indonesia raya.
and then the Ambalat conflict in the 2005 where navies of both nations made contact in the Ambalat. that time was very tense for both nation as there was possibility for war between both nation to broke out. And, the public here in Malaysia never know bout this incident, while in Indonesia, the sentiment of "ganyang malayia" were very hot with Indonesians burning Malaysia flag and ready to wage war with Malaysia.
we seems to be ignorant of this possible threat from this country and still being pampered by entertainment from indonesia, sinetron, and dangdut don't know of the threat.
we gain independent without any bloodbath, but in the process of preserving our independent there have been a lot of our warriors lives loss. and we still fail to realise the important of defending our nation but fight among each other because of political difference!!!!
i'm not inciting hatred toward other foreign country nor do i urge everyone to wage war. what i would like to stress is, be unite among each other and be prepared to defend our nation from the threat from the outside rather than divided in different political groups and fight among each other..
So far our Govt and politician have not protest or comment on
these uncalled for insult by the group of indon. While they have a lot to comment on trivial issues, strring and instigating racism, but when it comes to the real issue they just keep quiet, so stupid!
Datuk Wong. What do you expect when Malaysia torture Indonesian maids and policeman robs Indonesian workers? The bad feeling is aroused by the media. But the hurt feeling had been there for a long long time. I am surprised they have not declared war before.
It's getting tiring with our neighbours blaming us for everything... how about the haze? high crime rates due to indonesian immigrants? Wake up Indonesians! Solve issues like civilised people, after all we're neighbours!
Let's face it. Indonesia wants ownership of Sabah and Sarawak, and still harbours a grudge over that issue. The millions of Indonesians in Malaysia are potentially their third column in times of conflict. Our government is just blind to that fact. Strategically, Malaysia must source its labour from other countries like Myanmar, Laos and East Timor. The SECURITY of Malaysia is at stake. Indonesians are still hostile against Malaysia, and if they grow stronger as they prosper more, they may one day challenge Malaysia again.
We have poor negotiation skill in our government. Why are we letting Indonesia dictate the salary level of their maids? Isn't it base on supply demand market forces? Let's all stop taking any Indonesian maids and take more from Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, and East Timor. (BTW, China labour is getting expensive too). The Indonesian maids will find their own way here, by boat. ANd you can then hire them at market rates without paying any fee to the Indonesian agencies. Just set up a recruitment centre at the jetties in Melaka, Port Klang, Johor and Penang, where the Indonesian ferries dock. The fees paid to the Indonesian agencies can be better used to give the recruits real training on Malaysian soil. I have had a few Indonesian maids before. They all have next to zero skill upon hiring, which reflected that they had zero training in Indonesia. I have stopped hiring any Indonesian maids for the last two years.
I thought only Malaysians have mad cow disease. It looks like Indonesians are madder than Malaysians. But maybe the whole gang show was orchestrated by the Indon government to intimidate Malaysia.
Indonesia have accused Malaysia of stealing their song for the Negaraku (never mind if the origin was French/Hawaiian)and stealing their dance. What's next? Will they accuse Malaysia of stealing their language for our Bahasa Malaysia? Will they go back to reclaiming Sabah and Sarawak as theirs again? Will they claim Melaka as theirs too, since Parameswara originated from Indonesia too? By the way, we better not show the Taipusam dances and the Lion dances on our Tourism promos too, otherwise we may get two big boys, India and China, accusing Malaysia of stealing their dances too!
I dont feel sorry for Malaysians. The perception of the dirty and ugly and smug Malaysian is firmly entreched in Indonesia. We beat up their maids, pay their maids cheaply and accuse them of every crime conceivable. If I were an Indonesian, I would beat up every Malaysian. Malaysians deserve it. Period.
Why do te Malaysian govt like Indonesia so much, when the Indonesians dont like us. This is something I do not understand.
If you buy the Indon argument, then everything in Malaysia culture is stolen from somewhere.
BM is stolen from Indonesia. Mandarin, Hokkien, Cantonese etc is stolen from China. Tamil is stolen from India. English is stolen from England. Curry is stolen from India. Tomyam is stolen from Thailand. Hainanese Chicken rice and Hor Fun are stolen from China. The wayang kulit with the monkey and king story line is from India. The Chinese tok tok cheng opera is stolen from China. The wey wey Thaipusam spikes through the body and tongue dances are taken from India. The turban, haji skull caps, and the burqa are from the Arabs. The western wear are from the west. Your jeans are from the gold miners of California. Islam and Christianity are from the middle east. Buddhism and Hinduism are from India. Taoism is from China. The Sikkhism is from India. Those dances by the Barbosa and the Rodriguez in Melaka will be claimed by Portuga.
Gosh, Malaysian culture will be claimed by every other country! Help, we have nothing left that's our own!!! Every other country is going to sue us to take our culture away! INDONESIA, PLEASE GET OFF OUR BACK!!!
HELP! THE INDONS ARE COMING!
We need more submarines and fighter jets to keep them at bay!
Meanwhile please throw some bananas over to their side so these hungry monkeys won't come here so soon.
The INDONS are ridiculous. They never do their homework before they claim ownership of anything.
First the Negaraku. it was not theirs. It was French!
Then the Balinese dance. It is not theirs too. The Balinese copied it from India. In fact the whole Balinese culture and religion were copied from India!
Indons' go take a hike.
Don't worry about Indonesia.
The Pacific whole ring of fire are gonna blow up half of Indonesia. And the tsunami generated along this ring will drown everything on the west coast of Sumatra and Java.
They should spend more time worrying how to protect themselves from that than worrying about the Negaraku and Balinese dance.
As for Malaysia, we got more things to worry about than those mad cows over in Indonesia. We should be more worried about the massive corruption in Malaysia, and the orchestrated mad cow behavior we are seeing in our own backyard.
Every coin has two sides. We hear stories of a few beat up maids. While I condemn those cruel employers, there is another side of the coin. The Indon maids don't have a good track record either. There are plenty of cases of maids stealing from their employers. How about the kidnapping of employers's babies? And many of their credentials are totally fake. Even the age on the passport is fake. There are also Indon maids who run off from the employers to join their boyfriends or husbands at the construction sites once the maids get into Malaysia. The Indon workers have a poorer disciplinary track record compared to those from other countries like Myanmar.
Ask Indonesia to go fly kite. We can take maids from other countries. They are less troublesome.
Why keep recruiting so many Indons? Now they get swollen headed. They think Malaysia needs them. Pura!
Let's hire Bangladeshi, Chinese, Myanmarese, East Timorese, Cambodians, Vietnamese, Pakistanis. Anyone but Indons. Better put upp barricades around our shores. They are going to INSIST on coming once you tell them you don't want them.
if the indonesian republic plans to invade malaysia, the indonesian might face terrible consequences, because they forget that malaysia is one of the five power defense arrangement, where if indonesia invade malaysia, australia, britain, malaysia, new zealand, and singapore will consult each other if there is an external attack or aggression to malaysia or singapore.
maybe the indonesian are dare enough...
agree with Lieutenant, u might be from the army yea? we have to strengthen our defence and be prepare to defend our land should the indons would like to challenge us in the second konfrantasi in the future.
b4 this, it was konfrontasi, n then, the ambalat issue, thn we have smaller issues like rasa sayang, negaraku n now tarian pendet. so, what will be next??!! claming sabah n sarawak, n melaka strait as their territory??!!
damn, i never realise that we still idolise indons singers, dangduts, sinetrons n songs while the indons hate us all...
p.s. i never know about ambalat isu b4, now i know that indons n malaysia have been under tense relation before and now.
siti nur, ini bukan pasal melayu ka bukan melayu lagi....ni soal negara!!! walau serumpun , tapi negara berbeza
Just think of this scenario:
Indonesia ships hundreds of thousands of Indonesian military personnel over to Malaysia, under the guise of "labourers" and "maids". Big cache of weapons meanwhile are smuggled into Malaysia, hidden at specific underciver depots. At the right time, Indonesia confronts Malaysia. All the undercover Indonesian soldiers go to the depot, grab their weapons, and hey presto, they have several beachheads under their control in Malaysia. Worse still, the VVIP's "maids" who are actually female soldiers, grab the ministers and hold them hostage. Even the PM and Defence Minister could be at risk. We can laugh this off as "fantasy". But think of it, if Indonesia wants to invade Malaysia, the scenario is highly plausible. They can plant undercover Indons in just about every strategic locations. Ministers' homes, Royal households, RTM, Tenaga, phone companies, ..you name it. You can find Indons everywhere in Malaysia. Let us not forget that Indonesia still claims Sabah and Sarawak as theirs, and is still smarting over Ambalat. And their country men and women working in Malaysia are looked down upon by Malaysians. Yes, they really hate us. So the Malaysian government should really wake up, and stop taking so many Indonesian workers into Malaysia. Let's import from countries who are friendlier to Malaysia. But somehow I think it may not happen. Maybe many of our ministers have Indon blood, and are deliberately doing it due to divided loyalty.
Chun Wai
It quite simple, dont we have enough creative people to position Malaysians - Why take rasa Sayang or balinese dance????
There are thousands of places and interestin stuffs to promote Malaysians - Sack the Agency, what if a group of Malaysian are kidnapped for these dumb claims, and God forbid, some get hurt than what are we gonna say..
Just look at Sporean Tourism!
As for the maids' passport renewal, what's the problem? If the Indonesian embassy wants them to go home, let them go home lah. You can live without a maid. And the maids will get upset at their own government since they can't earn back the money they plunk down to their agencies when they came. Talking about agencies, mmm.. maybe the Indon sysndicates want the maids to go home and reapply to come here, so that the agencies can make money another round.
Maybe RELA should do something useful at times like these. RELA should go round up all the illegal Indons and deport them, and blame it on the Indon government and their vigilantes. If the Indon cowherds want to play funny, we can show them our RELA can be a bigger cowherd.
Re: scenario of invasion.
OK, FINALLY WE GOT SOMETHING ALL MALAYSIANS CAN AGREE ON, irrespective of race, religion, or political alignment (with the exception of a certain exMB who is part Indon): ALL MALAYSIANS ASK THE INDONS TO GO FLY KITE, (INCIDENTALLY THE KITE BELONGS TO MALAYSIA). DON'T TRY TO PISS ON US. (WE CAN DO THAT BY OURSELVES!). WE DON'T WANT YOUR MAIDS AND CONSTRUCTION WORKERS. WE CAN GET THEM ELSEWHERE. If you are not happy with RM400 plus room and lodging plus some stolen money, go work elsewhere.
Indonesians have finally decided they have had enough of Malaysians' prejudices against them. Indons have decided they have had enough of ugly Malaysians bullying their hapless maids. Way to go, Indons. I apologise on behalf of boorish and loutish Malaysians. Not even the perfumes of Arabania can wash away our sins.
From now on I stop hiring Indons. They are a threat to our country, and I will do my part by not hiring anymore of them. I hired them before because I thought it will be easier to communicate to them. But it is no use anyway because they usually don't follow instructions when I am not around to supervise them. I also found that the Bangladeshis can pick up Bahasa Malaysia and Cantonese pretty quickly. So now I will hire the Bangladeshis and Myanmarese, and others like Vietnamese, etc. The government should act quickly to open up more sources of labour, and reduce the number of Indons in Malaysia. We are too dependent on them at the moment, and that should be a source of concern as it exposes our economy and security.
RELA, what are you waiting for? An invitation? Go do your job. Go round up all the illegal Indons, and send them home so that those Indon thugs burning our flag and threatening our countrymen in Indonesia get the message not to mess with Malaysia.
RELA should stop wasting their time peeping into houses looking for khalwat suspects, and go uphold our national security and integrity.
WHEN is the government going to issue a TRAVEL ADVISORY to Malaysians TO AVOID VISITING INDONESIA for safety reason?
Malaysians should avoid the country as they may be attacked and suffer bodily harm. Besides that, why should we visit Indonesia to spend our money there when we are not welcomed there?
No wonder the yearly haze is completely ignored by the Indons!!
Why should they do anything about when they would rather that we are smoked to death!
And the extraordinarily stupid Malaysian government even thought of building a bridge to Sumatra!
What for? To enable the Indons to send their troops to attack our country?
WE WANT TO SEE THE MALAYSIA GOVERNMENT AND THE PEOPLE TO SEND A MESSAGE TO INDONESIA:
1) WE DON'T WANT THEIR MAIDS AND THEIR WORKERS. SEND ALL THE ILLEGALS HOME. HIRE FROM OTHER COUNTRIES.
2) STOP ISSUING ICs TO THEM. THIS IS CLEARLY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FAULT. STOP THAT NONSENSE. THE ABUSE OF ISSUING THE ICs TO THEM IS LIKE TREASON.
3) ADVISE ALL MALAYSIAN TOURISTS NOT TO TRAVEL TO INDONESIA.
THIS IS THE LEAST THAT MALAYSIA SHOULD DO. PEACEFUL, RATIONAL, LOGICAL, AND WITHOUT VIOLENCE.
The way I see it the Indonesian media (newspapers as well as broadcast stations) and certain politicians/ individuals should bear the major responsibilities of instigating the public against Malaysia. Even when Discovery Channel has apologised for their oversight on the Pendet dance, the media were not responsible enough to highlight the fact that it is not Malaysia's fault. Indonesians should realise that their continued protests and threats against Malaysia would only made them look bad, not only in the eyes of Malaysians but the entire world. It would only backfire. Malaysians should now think twice to go to Indonesia as tourists or students. (Just like the westerners who are weary of visiting Indonesia because of the Bali and Jakarta bombings.) We should also consider sending Mercy Malaysia to Indonesia since all the money and assistance we have given generously to Acheh after the tsunami was not even appreciated. We gave them jobs and their earnings help to feed their families and build houses in their kampungs. Every year, they burn their forests and pollute our environment and yet our Prime Minister offer to help them put out the fire.
WAKE UP MALAYSIANS! DON'T BE FOOLS!

Sure thing, you have to throw the bananas to us, the monkeys, to ease us up! But that could only be done under one condition, if you know how to plant the banana trees. Too bad you don't, you Malaysians have to steal the know-how of planting the banana trees like you steal our pieces of culture from us... LOL.
