Candle light vigil in Penang

Sin Chew Daily reporters, non-governmental organisation activists and former Universiti Sains Malaysia students have joined in a candle light vigil at the state police headquarters in Penang. Politicians from the Barisan Nasional and Pakatan have also dropped by to show support. The National Union of Journalists has issued a statement to protest against the use of the Internal Security Act on reporter Tan Hoon Cheng. Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, meanwhile, has been taken to Bukit Aman for questioning. Her party colleagues are at the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya to keep themselves updated on the situation.

If I were a BN MP, I will jump now! Is it possible that we see a new govt as early as tomorrow???

What are you telling us now? Stop spinning story. Teresa is arrested under ISA (detention wo trial) or she is under police investigation?

What's really going on here?? Is it really that serious that the gov have to resort to ISA?? Maybe the gov have a point with RPK n Theresa Kok though but still I think ISA is unnecessary here..But what about the Sin Chew reporter?? If she's to blame for sedition..shouldn't the newspaper editor shoulder some blame for it too? The gov are sending different messages to the people here..This is not the proper way to win people trust!

Sweet show of solidarity. On a lighter note, guess USM graduates do make it big in life too.

Stay calm and pray for the nation: that God, in His time and wisdom, may bring peace to Malaysia and rid her of, let's call it, bad elements.

Barisan National is OVER man... GONE... Next election only GHOSTS will vote for them...

We should conduct peaceful protest like this through out Malaysia to show that we do not condone this unjust act. Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan, Iban, who ever you are, i only call you Malaysian... do it as to show that we want change... for a better future for our generation to come..

It sadden me that we have these calibre of leaders, from our Dear Tun till now, how r we going to compete in the world arena? Is 2020still our target. How r we going to achieve prosperity for our people and our future generations?

When commodities and oil prices went up we being the exporter were in a advantageous positions than others and should have being smiling instead increasing prices. But now our situation is no longer that, the prices are not longer up and we have a big budget deficit we need to finance. Do not need to guess how our RM will be in the coming weeks and months as this saga unfolds.

We r facing major global slow down and they are arresting the righteous for delivering the truth.

Just bcos u hve the power to arrest people does not mean u shld do it for all the wrong reasons,

Shalom

Dear datuk Wong,
The country has reached a critical junctions. All of us may only have the power to voice our frustration in blogs. But you as the chief editor of the largest English newspaper, can help spread the voice the nations. Please help th country and DO NOT toe the line. Please report ACCURATE and FAIRLY. This is all I hope from you...

She should have been under 'protected custody' rather than being arrested. Her life was threatened for covering the Permatang Pauh by-election i.e. for doing her job. Those who threatened and instill fears in others are free to roam the street instead? OMG

Sickening "justice":
Ahmad runs free
Toyol runs free
Teresa Kok detained
Tan the journalist detained
RPK detained
And he tells us he was going to reform the government!
What reforms? I don't see any.
Why don't they just arrest all 82 of Pakatan Rakyat's MPs. That way the Pakatan Rakyat will never take over the government.

I agree totally with the Dark Knight. Wong Chun Wai, do something, dont be a coward, count yourself in. It is time for you to redeem yourself. Call a spade a spade, otherwise dont bother to be a blogger, dont waste space.

The govt.has stoop so low that coming up to use ISA against dissidents indicates that the administration has disintegrated and anytime the domino theory will take place.I hope Anwar predition comes true in 916 or else another operation lallang will be imminent.

Ridiculous!!! Why no ISA to Ahmad Ismail??? Malaysia is really a POLICE STATE. Call an early election and let the people send you the signal. I am sure this time we will send them a CRYSTAL CLEAR SIGNAL.

I urge you to take a public stand on this issue. Don't play politics with this anymore.

Dear Datuk and all Malaysians,

We have to stand united and stay calm. We have to reject such draconion tactics.

I urge right-minded BN MPs and members to carefully reconsider the situation now. Is this what Malaysian raykat want? Is this the best you can offer to Malaysia? Is there wisdom in all these? If the answer is a 'No' to any of the above questions then, do something!

Reject the party leaders' actions and perhaps consider leaving if you think it is right and for the best. You don't have to join PR. You can form a new party - a truly Malaysian party for all Malaysians. Remember it mustn't just be lip services. Self interest doesn't serve the voters that vote you. You have to walk your talk!

Thank you

Night will turn to Day

Chun Wai, I urge STAR to protest this use of ISA on a journalist who just reported what she saw. But so as not to give them a chance to shut down ths STAR or have YOU arrested as well for saying the wrong thing, just for ONE DAY, have blank pages on all the politics section, the opinion section, the editorials, your ON THE BEAT section, the columnist section,...all government announcement sections..ALL BLANKS as a sign of protest, without having to utter anything "seditious" or "sensitive".

To PAS: You claim to be fair to all race and religion when we of all race and religion voted for you. Now is the time for PAS leaders to show us that you will speak up for all race and religion. PAS, please speak up LOUDLY and let all the Malaysians and Muslims know that Teresa Kok and Tan Hoon Cheng are innocent and that PAS does agree with UMNO on this issue. Show us that our trust in PAS was a right decision.

Check Meiyen's blog. She is obviously a BN blogger. She (I guess on behalf of BN), now blames Anwar as the person responsible for all the arrests we are seeing! How pathetic can this Meiyen blogger be, whoever she/he/it may be. What's next, Meiyen? Blame all the rakyat that voted for Pakatan Rakyat for the use of ISA by BN government?

Note this report in your Star:

Thursday September 4, 2008

Uphold the truth, Abdullah tells media

PUTRAJAYA: The media must not be afraid of honest reporting while upholding truth and justice, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
He said the media should also not feel apologetic when reporting the facts.
“Hold strongly to the principles of truth as the credibility of an institution depends on it,” he said, adding that communication technology and channels could be used both constructively and destructively.
Abdullah said the two could be used as instruments to uphold principles of justice while spreading only the facts.

wcw this definitely adds to another reason of us becoming world laughing stock.
as a malaysian, i am really not proud to be one.
What is the star going to do? wcw this is the time you and other media orgs come together and unite for media freedom.
why dont you editors all meet and boycott ALL BN press conferences and issues?
as it is, journos are being paid peanuts and now they are arrested for reporting the truth.
is so silly and nonsensical! Why dont they arrest ahmad ismail under the ISA? why the reporter?
I reckon being a reporter in this country sucks and reporters are not given the full respect and dignity they deserved.
They wait long hours for stupid politicians to comment on issues, they sweat under the sun and drenched in the rain...all just to get the stories and truth to other malaysians and the world.
For performing a humble task, they get put in 'jail'.
Pak Lah and his government is getting out of track. At a time when he needs the people's support, he does things like this.
So does this mean if another dumbass politician make a racist comment, he will still be able to sit and enjoy his cuppa while the reporter gets arrested for telling people what he said?
as a reporter, one is supposed to report the truth. but by reporting the truth in this country, the reporter gets arrested.
I think this is the end for many journos wannabe. Nobody will wanna be a reporter in this stupid country.
I have always supported Pak Lah, but now I really think he should step down. Even if I dislike Anwar, I think he would make a better pm than pak lah.
Pak Lah, if you or your press sec are reading this, you should know many of us are losing support for you. Im speechless. It is such a disgrace to be malaysian.

Wong Chun Wai, you are in an influential position. Our country is at the crossroads.
Please use your voice and your newspaper to fight this injustice and to help bring about a new Malaysia.
The country needs you as never before!
Remember Amos, Micah, Isaiah.

MCA, speak up and show us you are still relevant to us, or shut down MCA forever as you will be deemed irrelevant, if not already irrelevant. Ong Tee Keat, show us NOW that you have what it takes to be a leader, or else don't bother to run for president of MCA because you will inherit an empty shell.

I call on PAS leaders to speak up for Teresa Kok. PAS is the party speaking for Islam, and has more credibility than UMNO in Islamic matters. The non-Muslims have given their votes to PAS in the hope that PAS will be fair to non-Muslims. Now is the time for PAS to speak up for Teresa Kok to show that our trust in PAS was not misplaced. It will be a great PR exercise for PAS to champion Teresa Kok's case, and win more support from the non-Muslims.

This is a very bleak day in Malaysian history....Its a very sad day for our country. We are only strong when all races are united ....Why? Why? Why? I really pity them particularly the Sin Chew reporter and Teresa Kok. What is happening in this country? What happened to law and order?

Anonymous said...

Teresa Kok and Tan Hoon Cheng are paying the price of UMNO's own internal strife. AAB's internal enemies are creating trouble to help bring down AAB. This is a repeat of 513. The script is very similar. AAB's enemies cause trouble, playup racial unrest, then accuse AAB of not being able to govern, then ask him to step down. I am wondering who is really controlling UMNO now. Ahmad was just a willing tool for these hidden powers to create trouble.

Anonymous said...

I call on all the members of MCA and Gerakan to quit your party and join PKR or DAP. Do not be part of the madness and cruelty of UMNO. Do not go down in history as being accessory of UMNO's plot to send your own sons and daughters to prison under ISA.

wasting time candle light!!

the BEST BEST WAY is to find a way to seek for our beloved Agung and Sultans advice as to why ISA should be used as a coward-up to arresting people and not charge them in courts instead.

to use ISA by BN, it is to intil fear to the rakyat that he can do whatever he likes or pleases. A crook and walk freely while the victim goes to jail and is barred from outside world !! he means BUSINESS!!!

Mind you, these poor detainees have children and friends too !!

so for those candle light brave people, be prepared to face ISA TOO!! Good Luck !!!

A Malaysian Time Clock Slowly Clicking towards 16 September!
-----------------------------------

Tick, Tock! Tick, Tock! Tick Tock!

Inbetween, spare parts and batteries still insufficient in case it stop.

Some try to move it faster by 15 minutes, some by 30 minutes.

Nobody thought of moving it backwards. I wonder Why?

Most keep on looking at the clock on the desk to check the time.

Some just make sure it is moving all the time.

Some just keep on staring at the clock, not sure whether it is moving or stopped.

Somebody propose the clock is not dependable. Must replace with another clock or bring in an
old working clock. At least the old clock don't show the date and month.

Someone even propose to have more clocks to make sure the time is correct.

Someone propose to put sunshade on the clock face so only some can see.

Some propose to change the numerals on the clock so that not all can read the time.

Some even propose removing the second hand from the clock. After that maybe someone will propose, removing the minute hand also.

Finally someone propose, "Why don't remove the hour hand also and just have the date and month displayed?

"Time is Golden? Does Man determine Time and Fate?"

Maybe the PM s not the one doing all the arrests??? Maybe someone else in UMNO is out to undermine him, like what happened to TAR???
Maybe the PM has lost control of his UMNO?

This is a total disgrace for Malaysia, and the Home Minister just now..said..the journalist must be blamed too as she is the one who started it...and teresa kok..which did not even got involved in this..azan issue...got arrested, all because Khir Toyo and Utusan made up stories.
Why Utusan was not issued show cause letter....

I am really ashamed to be a Malaysian..and PM Abdullah must step down.

Dear Anonymous, may I know why do u dislike Anwar? Yes, everyone has a past. A friend of mine was a drug addict before, but he has turned a new leaf now. I believe all the injustices Anwar suffered and went through have now made him a new person. Therefore, make no mistake, do yourself a favour by giving Anwar a chance, ok?
