Umno elections: It's over for Ali Rustam

Mohd Ali Rustam (left) is out of the Umno race for the deputy president post. He has been found guilty by the Umno disciplinary board. There is however no suspension on the Malacca Chief Minister despite being found guilty of breaking election rules. His political secretary Saadun Basirun was suspended for three years.

The race is now a straight fight between between Muhyiddin Yassin and Muhammad Muhd Taib. The question now is whether supporters of Rustam would throw their support for Muhyiddin as the race enters the last lap. Muhd Taib has reportedly told the press and members that he has no intention of pulling out. Just weeks ago, Umno delegates were expecting a photo finish between Rustam and Muhyiddin.

As speculation broke out in the last 48 hours of the board's decision, there was talk of resistance from Rustam but the likelihood is that Rustam would not go against the party leadership. He risked losing the Chief Minister's position if he pushes too far. With the disciplinary board decision, his image has already been dented. Although he has not been suspended from the party, his political career would now be written off.

The other big name was Umno Youth chief aspirant Khairy Jamaluddin, who was let off with a warning. He is still in the fight with Khir Toyo and Mukhriz Mahathir.

Hope that the MACC will quickly investigate this matter. They seems to be fast on oppossition politicians but slow on current govt.

Dear Wong,

It is good for the nation that corruption tainted politicians be removed from leadership position. This is what the people wants.

The country would be ruined by corruption and I believe every right thinking citizen hope that the MACC would do their job without fear or favour.

Now it is up to the MACC to press charges against all corrupt politicians
without delay.

As the former PM was reported to had said, every one knows who the corrupt leaders are.

What I fail to understand is why no action is taken against them.

Is it because of the fear of the powerful? I believe so.

I am still hoping against hope that the MACC will live up to its name.

I am also praying that God will expose all abuses and corrupt practices by the rich and powerful.

With God all things are possible.

Do you think he is the only one?

Money politics is just the excuse to stop him. The leadership dont think he is qualified to be deputy president and need to take him out before the election.

Dear Chun Wai

What a pity. Mohd Ali lost the fight before entering the ring.
Just when he was said to have an equal chance as Muhyiddin.
What now? Can we declare Muhyiddin the winner?
Or Ali's men will shift their votes to Muhammad Taib.
Is this the end of a swoop which may leave Umno dearth of leaders.
Is there a hidden agenda?
I am rather curious because it came sooo close to the party polls.
If money politics did happen, why allow it to drag on when the campaign started at least six month ago.
You can see the power struggle when the party polls was fixed to push Abdullah to retire earlier.
As a modern Malay with conservative views, I don't like what is happening to Umno now.
I feel like I lost my father again.
It's really not shocking as the MACC boss has implied swoop on big fishes are pending.
And what is corruption to MACC differs from the terms of reference of the Umno dsciplinary committee.
But is this the end or are there more?
We wait with bated breath.

Let us talk about some sense here. A MB of a state and a senior umno politician has been found guilty of corruption. He has been barred from contesting for next 3 years.

BUT HE IS ALLOWED TO REMAIN AS MENTERI BESAR OF MELAKA. HOW DO YOU FIND THAT?
HOW A PARTY WHICH CLAIMS TO BE SERIOUS ABOUT ERADICATING CORRUPTION COULD ALLOW ITS'CORRUPTED MEMBER TO HOLD THE HIGHEST OFFICE IN A STATE?
IF THIS IS WHAT UMNO CLAIMS GOOD GOVERNANCE IS ALL ABOUT, CAN WE EXPECT ANYTHING POSITIVE THEREFROM?
OR COULD IT BE A MEASURE ONLY TO PREVENT ALI FROM CONTESTING AS HE IS SEEN AS PAK LAH’S SUPPORTER?

PLUS, WHAT ABOUT THE ROLE OF MACC IN THIS? AREN'T THEY SUPPOSED TO GO AFTER ALI SINCE HE HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY?

SO, TELL ME HONESTLY. DO YOU BELIEVE UMNO CAN CHANGE?

Ali Rustam was found guilty by his party. He was involved in the most despicable act and the punnishment could not come at the right time. He made right as well as wrong decisions. Pulling off from the UMNO's race is the right move, but, hanging on CM post is terribly wrong one. How could a person who had been found guilty and deciplined could hang-on to power? Continuing to do so meaning enduring many sleepless nights. The opposition would definitely capitalise on this.

Abdullah's men can all resign from UMNO to form a new party , which we sahll call PArty X. Some of the BN component parties can stick with UMNO in BN, or partner with Party X. Then we can have a 3 party system in Malaysia: BN, PR and Coalition X !!! That will be a great day for democracy in Malaysia, as there is no single dominant party in Malaysia!

Dear Datuk Seri,

salam sejahtera.

Khir Toyo is CLEARED from charges of money politics. enough said.

that's surely one convincing verdict in the eyes of the PUBLIC!

God bless UMNO, God bless Malaysia.

best wishes,
a mandarin-speaking Malaysian Chinese who think Pkt Rakyat is very happy with what is going on in UMNO right now.

Another sandirawa from UMNO. It just show how corrupted they are. Money politics and bribery are the same. How can Tengku Rithaudeen say that they have done something wrong ethically and not criminally. But it doesn't matter what they want to do. Let them continue their in-fighting. We the rakyat know who to vote for the next GE. So does it matter to all of you if Ali or Mike Tyson or Muhydin wins the race???

And so why is he still the CM of Melaka?? Something is not right here....

It is just plain stupid that Najib and those UMNO goonies can outrightly say that he does not have to resign from being a CM even though he is "found" guilty by UMNO for money politics. Corruption means corruption la. Money politics means money politics la.. What nonsense!!

See la!! These are the people that will lead us. I got nothing to say!!

What can we do?Most of those guys eyeing the top positions are all tainted and yet have the gall to be leaders to lead this country.
This or most of this umno goons are corrupted and they do it so openly. What is shame to them?
its going to stay like this unless this umno party gets get out in the next GE.
This party will not change as most of the members are in for one thing. You know it and everybody knows it.This malay party has that thick skinned syndrome.
