MIC elections - where are the young guns?

Veteran MIC leader M. Muthupalania has announced that he wants to challenge party president Samy Vellu in the March party polls. Like politicians all over, the Seremban lawyer is also calling for change. Muthu is the first challenger to announce his bid. We are not sure whether there would be others. But Muthu first needs to get 50 nominations from the branches before he can have a shot. That's not all. Muthu is 68-years-old and that is not exactly inspiring at a time when most leaders in the Barisan Nasional are in their 50s and 40s. Barack Obama is 47 years old and he talks the language of Facebook, Twitter and Blackberry. That's something the young can connect with.

How can Muthu, with due respect, possibly be regarded as an catalyst of change and renewal? It's bad enough that Samy Vellu is 72 years old and has held the post for decades. The question is what is the position of the younger set of leaders like G.Palanivel, S.Sothinathan, Dr S. Subramaniam and M. Saravanan.

The word around is that most of them would rather play safe by eyeing the number two position and just wait for their turn. The only problem is that they should know that time is running out as the fight for the Indian votes becomes harder. There are enough political parties and bodies who claim to have the legitimacy to represent the Indians. The real competition against the MIC is outside the party, not inside.

Why take so long for Muthu to decide? By right he or other big names in MIC should have done this immediately aftre march election. Anyway it's better to do now rather then not at all. I salute the courage of Mr. Muthu and other MIC aspirants. Much has been talked regarding MIC disastrous showing but thus far nothing tangible materialises. I urge young bloods in MIC to take cue from Muthu and make their voice heard. Lets hope that change has finally come in MIC

Chun Wai

hers a suggestion

First, get rid of MIC being for Tamils only, historically its was for all indians - Northern,Southern, Eastern & Western.

Second, all communication must be in English.

Third, no more partisanship within Indians, Intergrate or VANISH.

Fourth, PULLOUT of Barisan, be Independent.

Fifth, No more Kollywood scripts and scenes, policies must be forward thinking, enough of ethnic divisions among Indians. Maybe they should take a leaf from Obama and start anew and be seen always practising non partisan policies.

I believe only than will any party in Malaysia will garner support of all Malaysian, better still open the new party for all Malaysians regardless of race and religion.

dear dato' ; MIC young guns are not prepared to tell their boss that he has overstayed. it is a pity ,the party is losing its support every day ,every moment. If Samy really care for the party he should not seek re-election. Leader of Complete Denial. He and the party is a liability for BN. Unfortunately BN is another BIG liability to the nation. How la Dato ?

Hello Datuk,

Why are you instigating MIC members to vote out Samy Vellu? Please lah, give Pakatan a chance in the next election to win the federal Government.

And that will be made easier with the presence of the likes of Samy Vellu, Najib, KJ, Mike Tyson, Ali Rustam, Hishammuddin, Chua Soi Lek, Koh Tsu Koon, Kayveas in Barisan Nasional.

Don't spoil the party please, Datuk. You are helping Barisan with you post. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhshhhhhhhhhhhshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Dear Dato,
U have come out with a good article.
MIC will struglle n the battle for indians in the counrty wil continue til Samy vellu s in power. He should leave n give way to the younger generations.Instead of MuthuPalaniappan the younger leaders must brave enough to announce to contest against Samy vellu.
First of all, people like Saravanan must volutarily announce that he s going for any post n same goes to the others.
Make a move first then u wil c the results.Nothing can change the fate of MIC unless the members all themselves decide for the best.
members can decide who should leave who should stay.
We want a new MIC.

Dear Blogger,
MIC and the whole party is in dilema.
Just matter they can voice out for samy vellu to leave.By keeping in their heart n not dare to say it what s the point u r in MIC.
I think they should form a special comission to dig n find out what r the defacts in the party.
Special comission should b bias they must fairly declare in the newspapers n to the public what r the results.
Wake up MIC.

The need for all the Indians is grewing from day to day.
We want a new MIC with new faces.

I think there should be a better candidate to contest against Samy.
Perhaps a younger one.
Young leader with good political background n whom can work for indians.
