Anwar Ibrahim back home in Segambut

Anwar Ibrahim has been freed and is now at home. A press conference is scheduled at 2pm, where he is expected to give his views on the events of the 24 hours.
A day after his arrest, the public is still talking about the manner the police nabbed him outside his Segambut house. For supporters and lawyers of DSAI, it was unnecessary, a display of high-handedness and a display of over-eagerness to arrest him. After all, the appointment was 2pm and he still had at least a good 30 minutes to do his own things like refreshing himself.
There was no shortage of abusive language for bloggers who merely reported the event, including this blogger. Reports were mistaken, or interpreted as views, as emotions ran high yesterday. For the police, their version is that they had to act because they feared a possible confrontation with his supporters if they had to arrest him at home. The ski masks? Their claim is that these officers were often involved in high-risked security missions and that their identities must be protected at all times. They justified that DSAI was not man handled. This is what THEY said. Not all of us would agree, of course.
Whatever the reasons, the bottom line is that plenty of goodwill has been lost. Public opinion is not with the police and government. Most Malaysians had expected DSAI to show up at the police station at 2pm, and if he failed to do so, then arrest him by all means. But let him keep his appointment.
The manner of Anwar arrest will not serve the cause of the BN. In fact, there will be more sympathies for Anwar. Politically, it wasn't a very clever move and counter productive to BN.
The statement has been taken, questions asked and DSAI has refused a DNA test, for fear of fabrication of evidence, his lawyers said. He has still not being charged for sodomy. According to the police, Anwar will have to report to the police headquarters again tomorrow. The investigations will continue, and if he is charged, Anwar deserves a fair and proper trial. It would be better if reputable international observers are invited to follow the proceedings.
Obviously, it doesn't look like it would be the end of the matter. But for KL folks going to work, they have had enough of the road blocks that have been set up for purported security reasons. Again, the police may have their reasons but this is working against the government. At a time, when Malaysians need to focus their attention on more pressing issues, the country is bogged down with more political controversies. Malaysians need to be productive, turn up for work on time, not get bogged down by jams. Worse, this political issue it has divided the nation. The general election is long over but our energy is still sapped up by fractious politics. Politicians are spending time speculating about whether Anwar is guilty or it is a government conspiracy instead of talking about how to provide food on our tables.

The police image and integrity are down the drain after how they did it to Anwar.Anwar was given until 2pm yesterday to assist police in the investigation of a sodomy case in the KL police station. But,the police did not keep up with their promise and picked him up around 1.00pm.It is a shame and how do you expect we,malaysians to believe and respect them anymore.Their unprofessionalism is a disgrace in the eyes of the world.

Sdr Wong,

Satu lagi usaha mereforsamikan negara.

Mengenai penahan Anwar, kami cuma ingin bertanya kenapa Anwar Ibrahim begitu takut dengan DNN nya? Kenapa beliau tidak membenarkan pihak polis mengambil DNA nya? Inilah persoalan penting yang menjadi perbualan hangat.

Anwar Ibrahim takut dengan DNA? Mesti ada rahsia disebaliknya? Jangan kita nak salahkan Polis.Mereka hanya buat tugas mereka.Ketua Pengarah Imegresen pun kena lanyak.Siapakah Anwar.

Dear YB Datuk,

Well put, during such ecomonic situation all Malaysians including the Government should concentrate on the real issues of tackling the rising costs and not fabricated ones.

The Government and their servants should conduct themselves professionally and efficiently and not waste away taxpayer money and time.

While Malaysians are doing their level best to ride through and survive the current situation, they should be helped by the Government and not caused further inconvenience and losses.

Well said Datuk.

Even pakciks in tepi jalan is talking about this. And please polis, dun sekat jalan for whatever reason.

It's not about security , it's about showing to Anwar that you just made comment to ACA about Musa and now you are being punish . PDRM "show" will not stop Anwar from seeking justice . But Thank god no C4 was used .

Mr Editor in Chief,

I could not imagine how the BN govt would recover for this kind of act on DSAI. It is a disgraceful!

He is a free citizen, he deserved to be treated fairly. It is pity that Malaysia Lawmaker still uphold the negative perception on a person alleged! before going through a proper trial.

I wouldnt surprise if a popular poll is set, many 'rakyat' wont favour the govt or perhaps none!

Anonymous said...

aqybrYou're spot on! The credibility of police and the government is at stake! The road blocks is a great insult with higher consumption of fuel/cost due to the grid-locks!
The public would applaud if the police would channel such resources and 'road-block' actions to nab thieves, rapists and kidnappers (like Shalini for example!)

Frustrated!

I must agree that the police are overzealous in their action. They must act with confidence and not unnecessarily create traffic jams. Instead of helping to ease bottlenecks at our already congested roads and highways, they are contributing to further congestion and chaos on the roads. Those who reacted to WCW's blog should not use it as a target practice on him. In this country, everyone is entitled to their own views, be it right or wrong, up to each of everyone to disagree to agree. Come on Malaysians, show o the world that we have some sense of decorum or at least kinda of restraint in our lingo.

Saya ingin mengulas komen yang ditinggalkan on Saudara Wilayahkini:

Maaf, saya rasa saudara salah faham.

Jadi saya juga ingin menegur saudara, to please get your facts straight.

"In 2003, Welshman Jeffrey Gafoor was convicted of the 1988 murder of Lynette White, when crime scene evidence collected 12 years earlier was re-examined using STR techniques, resulting in a match with his nephew."

I see a man running behind his shadows......calling on international support - because he lacks any local one..how do you become the PM under these circumstances?. How can you command the very institutions you despise? Sack all of them? Funny....you sack 2 million Public Servants when you become PM? This man has asked for fuel price reduction on 2.78 not on earlier promised price pre-election....yet we say he won the debate. Do we not see the manipulation?

Malaysia is going through a dumbing effect time.....the people and bloggers have become the judge and the jury of the country. This country...for all its flaws...rank 24 of the 178 countries in ease of doing business in world bank competitive rankings. Please tell me how we got here if we are a goner case as bloggers have said we are.If indeed all our institutions are crap and as Anwar puts it...HE HAS NO CONFIDENCE IN THEM.

How is it that he had confidence in them when he was released? When he was allowed to go on TV? When he was allowed to rally round the country pre-election with very little control? Indeed he can choose when he turns up at the police station.....not when instructed but when he choose...amidst all this you say the police are crap? Please la

isn't it clear to you that he didn't go on Monday because he wanted the profile on Tuesday? he knew he would be remanded. By having the profile on Tuesday, his team can then cry wolf again saying how screwed up this country is.

why is this man so afraid to go to the police station. why not give DNA. Why run between syariah and civil court. An innocent man will face his enemy HEAD ON!!!!! Thaas Islam. Not run around teh world and destroy this country. He is riled with suits and counter suits? he has cast suspicion in what this country has built over 50 years. reducing Malaysia and its people mind you to a "DUMB ZONE". what sad is people are biting this and it is a reflection of the intellect of Malaysians.

Why wasn't the institution given credit when we allowed him on TV. He has no clear standing in Govt yet he is allowed on TV. The UK banned Jerry Adam of Ireland for years from TV. When he did come on TV, his voice was muted. We did not do this.

The alternative media, whilst I am a great supporter of this, in Malaysia is really not where it should be. It is totally irresponsible..and loves to ride on scandals more than it does intellect.

I rest my case.....

I think this guy grew up watching melodramatic Tamil movies (dengar khabar Datuk nya tukung gunting Tamil yang kahwin Melayu di Ceruk Tokun, BM.) Cuba checklah.
That should explain his dramatic MGR/Sivaji-hero-victimised and later lawan dengan semua dan menang behaviour.
Ya, bro, lawan tetap lawan.
The solution is simple. bagi saja itu sample sperma.
If you don't thrust, oops, I mean trust, the local cops led by Musang, give to FBI, Interpol or any international agency lah.
Just because his supporters are so blinded by loyalty and taksub, semua boleh buat. Peegih dah!

Obviously the PDRM has made the same blunder again. They have not learned from their past mistake. Something must be seriously wrong with Bukit Aman. As in 1998, they are now giving all sort of excuses and hope the public to believe in thier story. Anwar has another good 2 hrs before the 2 pm deadline which the police has set. Why hurry? Why rush?

This has become a trial of perception. Convict Anwar, the BN will look bad. Release Anwar, the BN will look bad. Right now, it is not a question of whether Anwar is guilty or not. Right now the ball is in BN's court. That means throw out the case.

Yes, an innocent man will face his enemy headon once. But only a stupid man will do it ever again. Isn't the onus on the accuser to show proof? Or perhaps that must have held true in a more dignified era. Peace to all.

Anonymous said...

I tried to be neutral in respect to the sodomy charge. My stance is that let the truth prevail. But after witnessing the Police highhanded manner in arresting DSAI and forcing him to sleep on the floor my sympathy lies with him. If a high profile personality and former DPM like DSAI himself is publicly humiliated by the police imagine what Police will do against commoners like us.

The Police never learnt. Whatever goodwill is left has now gone forever. Police image is in the pit now. They are almost like a government within a government. Even PM himself dare not implement the Police Complaint Commission.

At the end of the day Police will forever be viewed with suspicion and hatred. I hope IGP and his top brass are sent for a debriefing course so that they will look at citizens (including crime suspects) as human beings. Using rationale that they are enforcing the law is just mere excuses and crap.

Most politician cannot be trusted. Anywhere in the world like Dick Cheney- they are for themselves.

But both BN & PR now are stupid. Anywhere & any issue they present actually for the small group of them.

Rakyat in the whole are the tools for them. Pls stop it.

Past generation of BN made Malaysia stable & grow. But today their new generation so greedy like pig, weak, no brain & arrogant but with VIP image all the time.

PR always making chaos & endless ceramah without idea & benefit. No charity program, speak without moral & provoke sensitive issue. They provide our way to hell & all of us will be burn.

Politic is not the only way to help people- if they really want to, creating job is better way. But these guy are stupid.

Anonymous 3.32pm: (or the same one who likes to "rest my case" and thinks he/she has the last word)

You gotta hand it to yourself why this country has plummeted to the depths that it has. When scandals and rumours are more relied on than even words from Wong Chun Wai himself. When everything the police and BN do is viewed with heavy doses of skepticism.

All this is due to messed-up voters like you who, first of all, have no balls (or tits) to call a name for yourself but prefering to be anonymous. Secondly, voted the wrong selection all these years and allowed them to f***ed us upside down slowly but surely.

And all you can see is that Anwar is wrong and has something to hide, but not the police and BN. You told Anwar to face his accusers head-on??? And yet you have no balls (or tits?) to face us here with your own nick name...Huh! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Besides, this little gamemanship of yours (squaring up to your oppressor) may have worked in the Zaman Purba Me-Tarzan-You-Jane era, but in this modern era only boys (and girls) with brains play this game in a different manner. No need to behave like a bull in a china shop, especially when the police and BN have no intention of playing clean. Only a fool will take your advice to confront his aggressor.

I am really surprised why a simple rape trial is getting this much attention from the government. Aren't the powers-that-be supposed to treat everyone as equals under law?

If this were really so, then why haven't other criminal cases been solved this speedily? Why has the murder case of Ms. Altantuya been dragged on for months, with no end in sight? Why hasn't Sharlini's kidnappers been brought to justice?

WHAT ABOUT THE THOUSANDS OF OTHER RAPE, INCEST, ABUSE AND CHILD TORTURE CASES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN SOLVED YET?

Why is a 60-something year old being given special attention in this supposed rape trial? Why is the Police expending so much resource on apprehending this guy, when OTHER SERIOUS CRIMES THAT AFFECT THE ENTIRE NATION GOES UNPUNISHED AND UNSOLVED?

I think the most important fact that shows a political conspiracy is that the police report by Saiful is not made available to DSAI even after he has asked for it directly so many times. All we see is a one sided attempt to intimidate and what appears to be thought out steps to "build' evidence. I mean how can you go to all lengths to arrest, strip and investigate an accused when he does not even know whether the accusation is valid and cannot even get any details. Its like being slapped by someone and the natural reaction is to ask why and you are told you did something bad but when pursued for details and written evidence you are not given any.

We also see this in RPK's case. He is being charged for criminal defamation...hulo...by whom. Ada report kah. Show the report lah and who made it. Looks like another attempt to manipulate and fabricate.

Politics are always dirty no matter where in the world...no doubt...

There is a joke abt this politicians...

One day, there was a bus of politicians travel from one place to another passing by the all the padi field and hulu area along the road.
Accident happen due to loss control, and the bus that full with
politicians flung into the padi field and some politicians were injured were dead on the spot and some were injured.
Then come a farmer with his young son to the scene, he just dig a big holes and put all the bodies into the grave. With curiosity, his son asked why you burried all the politicians because some of them were still telling you that they are still alive?
The farmer replied his son: politicians are always lying.

Does Saiful look and behave like a traumatized and sodomized guy? Most raped or molested victims behave very differently. They withdraw into their own shell and afraid to face the public. They feel shamed and "dirtied". But hell no, this Saiful behave like a peacock strutting around shouting "sodomy" and challenging DSAI to this and that. And he look so vibrant and can think of calling the DPM to talk about sodomy? Hey, can we send all the rape victims in Malaysia to see the DPM? Of course the Malaysians can smell conspiracy and fraud here. Only the BN supporters refuse to see it, but prefer to be blind.
