Zulkifli Nordin defends PAS ruling on dressing

PKR MP Zulkifli Nordin has defended a ruling by the Kota Baru Municipal Council against purported improper sports attire at its park. The controversial Bandar Kulim Baharu MP has questioned the right of joggers to wear "tight shorts, mini skirts, breast-hugging T-shirts and tight shorts for men."

Zulkifli's line of argument is a pathetic joke. No one who goes to a park to exercise would wear mini-skirts and what is his definition of "tight shorts" and "breast-hugging T-shirts" especially in conservative Kota Baru? He is just exaggerating. Joggers want to feel comfortable and healthy when they go to a park to exercise. Wearing shorts is certainly not extraordinary nor indecent.

The problem is when such a directive is issued, its implementation is always open to abuse. What is essentially a decent pair of shorts could be regarded as "sexy and skimpy" in the eyes of some self-appointed guardians of morality. After all, even rock singer Avril Lavigne is regarded as "sexy" by PAS, which became international news. The KB ruling is unnecessary and smacks of Talibanisation of the state by PAS. In short - no pun intended - there are now many intolerant moral policemen around.

In his blog, Zulikifli has pointed out that in Uttar Pradesh, colleges have banned female students from wearing jeans and other forms of western clothing. Anyone who has a rational head would object, of course. Why should jeans and western clothing be banned? Does that make it right? Using the same principle, how would Zulkifli react if colleges in western countries decide to ban the purdah and other Arabic clothing? What if these westerners claim that headscarves and similar clothing would be unsuitable for sports?

People must have the right to choices. How people want to dress up is nobody's business and if there are those who want to cover themselves from head to toe, even in the heat, it is their right. We should defend their rights, as Karpal Singh has done so. But if we wish to run around in shorts, loose or hugging T-shirts, it is also our right. If there are such dress code in our local public universities or parks in other states, we should also register our protest. It is also Zulkifli's right to quit PKR and join PAS.

How about my choice and my right to protect my eyes from seeing sexy and tight dressing? Then you saying I should jog in my house??If we talk about choice-how about someone want to rape the sexy joggers.Don't you think they also have their own choice.'Proper(not sexy)' dressing is not only proposed or encouraged by Islam BUT by other religions-PLS check the history;but the problem is some people thnk they are living in this modern world so they must change and keep their dressing up to date. How about if your WIFE or your daughter said they have coice not to weear ANYTHING while jogging in the park???!!Please let ME KNOW the time and place if they really want to do it and you APPROVE IT!! Do not allow yourself being GUIDED by your intellectual thinking but please also consider what the GOD says-unless you are the UNBELIEVER??

Tuan Zulkifli, there are lots of Muslim women wearing jeans too, why don't you propose that it be banned. Look at yourself first before you judge others.

Ridiculous that policitians should focus on such trivial matters as "dressing" when there are larger, more pressing issues that deserve more attention. Where are their priorities!

The problem is that he continues to get publicity no matter how small his mind is. You give him a page lead and he will continue to make such remarks. I notice in his posting, he did so by Blackberry. He is very sophisticated but he wants others to remain in the dark ages.

We need Zulkifi to form the Taliban party in Malaysia, he doesn't need PKR.

STAR, UMNO, BN, MCA etc all Love this Zulikifli Nordin fella. He is such an ars@#$%@. He shoot his mouth (located at the rear) off all the time. I wonder why DSAI has not sacked him. Hello DSAI , are you deaf or what? If you don't sack this guy, we will sack you at the next GE!

If this man finds the attire and behaviour of his fellow Malaysians to be so offensive to his tastes then he really ought to migrate to Afghanistan and live among the Talibans. He will find peace of mind and be much happier there.

After all, in olden days, when holy men found that their society was too decadent and immoral, they had no hesitation taking off to live in the desert by themselves far away from the so-called decadence that they so abhor.

he has every right to speak up his own opinion and belief in this democracy country.. and i think its fair to him to speak out his faith and concern regarding this issue as a muslim. u might have some point to weight in your statement but i would like to suggest u to learn how to respect other believe, faith and religious teaching since i also believe that u has yours too! its doesnt matter if he is a PKR, PAS or Umno since either way he is a muslim and a Malaysian citizen who has every right to speak.. in the comment list, i just realize the idea that some people think that PKR is an anti religious statement or we should be a non believer to be a PKR member.. now i know~

STAR and BN loves Zul because he is such an A%$#h&^% and an embarassment to Pakatan Rakyat. That is why when this SOB shoots his mouth off, he is cannoon fodder for the press. Maybe DSAI keeps Zul in PKR to garner the ultras' votes, but he should be careful in that Zul will drive away the non-Muslim and non-bumi votes at the same time.

Somebody should check this Zul's backfround carefully and see how many Muslim teachings that he does not follow, and what he does that is totally contrary to Muslim techings. It is very common for ultras to break a lot of teachings that they profess to follow and defend.

How did he pass law school when he thinks so illogically? This fella is sick.

UMNO does not need any spokesperson in UMNO. They have one who is located in PKR, and his name is Zul Nordin. When will PKR wake up and realise he is an UMNO mole sent to infiltrate and destroy PKR? This guy is an ultra.

Zul Nordin is not wearing Arabic robes, and does not have a long beard, and does not talk about peace, love and tolerance. I think he should be banned from speaking for Islam. He is not a good role model for Islam.

No logic coming out of this lawyer. We should check his credentials for entering the local law school and check his actual performance in law school. Is he a product of the low level set to produce graduates by the tons?

If PAS cannot tolerate the dressing of West Malaysians, then they should forget about going to East Malaysia.
If you go into the interiors of Sabah and Sarawak, the locals wear what is most appropriate for jungle life, which is next to nothing, because of the humid jungle, and also because of the environment. The arabic robes, turbans, tudung, etc will entangled if in the bushes. Leeches will crawl up inside the dress, and you can't reach in to get rid of the leeches. So, PAS, you can forget about going nationwide. Just stick to the kampungs in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.

Send this fella to Afghanistan and Pakistan??? At the rate things are going there, the locals will probably shoot him, like the way they are turning against the talibans now. Yeah, the locals in Pakistan are now shooting up the talibans for causing so much damage and injury to them. This guy belongs to Gitmo because he is a threat to society and should be locked up, and the keys thrown away. He is a psychopath and a disgrace to his professed religion because he is not practicing kindness and compassion like what Islam teaches.

And to be fair, how people want to look at other people's dress from whichever angle should also be nobody's business.

Dear Anonymous, yes, the one who made the hillarious comment: "How about my choice and my right to protect my eyes from seeing sexy and tight dressing? Then you saying I should jog in my house??If we talk about choice-how about someone want to rape the sexy joggers.Don't you think they also have their own choice."

First of all, if you want to jog within your own compound, you are free do so. And if "sexy" joggers bother you while you are exercising... Wait a minute, you should be focusing on your workout rather than let you attention divert. What? Are you so weak? Temptation is a test of your keimanan, mind you.

And a choice to rape the sexy jogger? What the...? That's sick to speak of. It's not a crime to be sexy. But it's a crime to rape. Then you can rattle out of context when you define choices in committing crime like robbing, theft, bribery, etc. The issue now is about him trying to impose minority views to the majority. Ethically speaking, I hold on to the utilitarian concept, where the greater majority should be protected. This Zul can say all he wants, but to alienate the majority with his childish views is clearly unhealthy thinking!

There are so many more important things to think about, but our politicians chose to talk about dressing. This clearly shows how much education one has because all his thoughts are centered around dressing, sex and temptation of the forbidden fruit. And sad to say, there are fractions of our society with such thoughts.

Please, if you have the time, go kuatkan your iman and stop having lustful interpretations of the human psyche! Got brain, think.
