Penanti: Aminah spices up the by-election

What is seemingly a boring by-election in Penanti is shaping up to be an interesting one. Independent candidate Aminah Abdullah is claiming she was offered the post of the Penang Municipal Council president and a cool RM80,000 to withdraw from the race. She distributed copies of an audio recording to reporters where the said offer supposedly took place at her home. All very intriguing.
She alleged that two PKR top guns made the offer on May 13. One was said to be an aide to a Penang PKR government official and another a high ranking leader. There is also a video clip too, it seemed. The word is that she is expected to name names tomorrow.

Aminah is a former PKR grassroots leader and her accusations would certainly spice up the by-election, which has been dismissed as a non-event by many following the BN decision not to contest. Aminah, a former Penang PKR Wanita chief, is unlikely to cause much damage to PKR in this state constituency, which is part of Anwar Ibrahim's stronghold.

But what Aminah could reveal, if there is something substantial, would show how little difference there is among politicians, whatever their parties. In the end, it's all about power and fulfilling self interests despite claims to be fighting for the people. The former Penanti assemblyman quit his post following allegations of corruption, which he claimed was an internal conspiracy to get rid of him. He was later cleared by the MACC and had threatened to spill the beans but he didn't.

Aminah as President of the MPPP? I would not even offer her the post of Chief Dogcatcher of the Council let alone its President. She just does not have right credentials to head the Council as its President. And DCM1? I think Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng would probably resign in disgust and join Gerakan if she were made Penang’s DCM1. I doubt the DCM2, Professor Ramasamy, would even consider this a joke. It is beyond a joke. It is like the Prof appointing his typist as his new boss.

More dog and pony show by power-hungry politicians.

Aminah should save her deposit by withdrawing. The elections in Malaysia are no longer personality based. It is a party vs party affair. You can put a goat or a cow there, and the voters will still vote for the goat or cow as long as they belong to their favourite party. She either just doesn't get it, or she is a proxy for another party.

wcw,

She is wasting her time and money in this by-election.Maybe,she was funded by someone to smear the image of her ex-comrades to gain some political mileage even though she knew that the chances of winning is one million to one.As for the amount of money of 80K that she alleged that PKR wanted to offer her for withdrawing the contest, she must be out of her mind for coughing out this type of story to appease the voters.

Aminah, you are so excited to tell the people the truth about this man named Anwar Ibrahim. Please remember whatever goes around comes around. You lodged a police report claiming that you feared for your safety. What a joke!. Is it a trend to reveal than make a police report for safety.

I guess she felt "insulted" the only RM80K, others are rumored to be getting millions. Back room wrangling and negotiations are unfortunately common in politics all over; what's your problem makcik?
DCM2? President of MPPP...hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....this is May, April's fool is way past.

PKR really need to cleanse their rank and file of such numbskull and give the country more credible leaders.

WCW,

You sure know how to blow things out of proportion...Aminah is a non issue as far as I am concerned. BN has lost the perception war and with it, the credibility with the rakyat.

I think she is trying to get UMNO support and hoping to be recruited by UMNO !

Datuk, can we appeal to you to help us helpless Malaysians to try to bring some meaningful positive changes to our now wretch country you being chief editor of theStar. I hope Datuk you read what Gerard Lourdesamy has to say regarding the degradation that has come to Malaysia at The Perak crisis — Gerard Lourdesamy which is not only reflecting the situation in Perak but in the whole of Malaysia.

A small portion of that article:

But despite all this gloom and doom, Umno/BN’s only fear is the peoples’ desire for change. They realise that they cannot control a people that have become wiser, smarter and more well informed with the ability to discern the truth from lies, fact from fiction, despite the widespread media propaganda, the control of information and Umno/BN’s entrenched ability to pander to petty and narrow racial and religious sentiments to divide and disunite the multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural population of the country.

From the Edge:

"Though Aminah had said that she was offered RM80,000 to withdraw, the audio recordings revealed that she was asked how much she had budgeted for the by-election to date and her husband Mohd Rofi had said RM80,000 to which one of the men had suggested that the party could reimburse what they had spent, if she decided to withdraw.

The duo also had pledged to help lobby for her to become the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) president if she withdrew and rejoin PKR.

The recordings also revealed that the two PKR leaders had tried to persuade her to withdraw from the by-election and to join the party's struggle to fight Barisan Nasional.

Also mentioned was the fact that PKR candidate Dr Mansor Othman had lost thrice and whether he would be lucky enough to win this time around.

Even the bit about offering her the deputy chief minister 1's post had been said in jest, in the event that Mansor might not make it or failed in his candidacy."

Lock her up and throw the key away.

She is nothing more than a shit stirrer with her allegations if you have the smarts to see the contradictions within her allegations.

All she is trying to do is to drive a wedge between Guan Eng and Anwar with her allegations of promises of positions. Thankfully these 2 personalities are smart enough to see beyond her ruse.

Shit stirrers are the worst kind of people and they should be reminded so.

I hope enough fair thinking Malaysians of Penanti will remind her by making her lose her deposit!

She is so obvious in her act that anybody can see thru her..very manipulative. And instead of marketing her "selling points" to be a worthy representative, she has started off with negative campaigning. SO what does she stand for? What social agenda is she promoting? Obviously she has nothing. She will pay dearly at the polls...probably lose her deposit and her dignity.

I think it would be prudent to at least be objective about the situation.

It could be a case of washing your dirty linen in public, which of course just happens to work in favour of one party that is not even involved in this election.

Nevertheless all we can do as the little people is just to choose the lesser of two evils, and hope those really fighting for the right cause can make a difference once they're put in the position to.

There are more serious issues than Aminah. Like the PKFZ. I hope the heads responsible for the rape of the taxpayers will roll. We want to see blood in the PKFZ case. And we want to see the investigation and court case speeded up. Not wait until the accused are old and in a wheel chair, waiting to die of old age and illnesses before they are brought to court.

Vindictive politics should be discouraged. It is very obvious what her motives are. Do not have respect for such individuals

Dear WCWm if there is no other drama, maybe Aminah may be news. But in the ligh tof PKFZ, Aminah is NOT news. PKFZ IS NEWS. WE, the citizens of Malaysia of all races and religion have been raped of BILLIONS if RINGGIT !!! That IS NEWS. Not a a blady Aminah of some kampung somewhere in the north.
