The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj is deeply saddened and disappointed over the disputes relating to the recent appointment of the new Perak state government to the extent of displaying rudeness to the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah.
“Political developments, instances of street demonstrations and disputes between various parties, relating to the recent appointment of the new Perak state government, to the extent of displaying rudeness to the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, have saddened and disappointed me,” he said this in a special press statement entitled “Affirmation Regarding the Political Turmoil in Perak Darul Ridzuan”, which was released from Istana Alam Shah, here.

I had written in this blog last December about Sultan Sharafuddin. He has certainly demonstrated himself to be more progressive and reform-minded than many Malaysian politicians, who still thrive on trivial issues and to project themselves as communal champions to win votes.
In my interview with his Royal Highness then, the Tuanku made known that he was unhappy with politicians who harp on trivial issues, play up racial issues and more important this is his message - Malaysia belongs to all and this country is built on the contribution of all races. I think the protest against Sultan Perak has gone a little overboard initially but it all calmed down. This is normal human nature just like the Terengganu and Perlis MBs saga just after the general elections. I think BN deliberately played up the issue and it was much racial in nature since Karpal Singh is a non-Malay. Disagreeing with Sultan cannot be assigned as treason and in fact it is good for the country as it enhanced critical thinking for the betterment of this country. So, I hope those guys from BN (mostly double standard) stop their stupidity before hell fire break loose! Maybe that's what they want since UMNO is out of favour with the Rakyat.
Can he back his speeches and views with action? The baptism of fire came to Sultan Azlan Shah and Raja Nazrin to proof their democratic and highfalutin credentials, and they failed miserably. One hopes the Sultan of Selangor would do better than the Sultan of Perak when his time comes to prove his democratic credentials.
A kingdom without her subjects is just an empty shell. Therefore, the respect must be mutual. If the subjects are ignored infavour of dubious politicians, you can not help but, see resentment directed at the monarchs. Neutral means neutral, no ifs and no buts!
Democracy, must be upheld at any cost...even to the extent, if a need to go against the monarch if he erred.
Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy. Royalty is supposed to follow the people's wishes, not make decisions that go against the will of the people. This is not a question of rudeness, it is about upholding the constitutional rights of the Malaysian Rakyat, which continues to be trodden upon by corrupt politicians. The Sultan of Perak has been badly advised and has erred in this matter, and the Rakyat are just making known how they feel. According to Merdeka Centre poll, 74% of Perakians do not agree with the way BN has taken power in Perak. If the Sultan wants respect, he also must respect the wishes of the Rakyat. If Queen Elizabeth did what the Sultan of Perak did, what do you think the people of Great Britain would do?
Hi, not only should we be concern about the quality of the politicians but at the same time we should be concern about the quality of our journalists.
Saya rasa sultan-sultan harus jangan memihak kepada mana-mana parti politik tetapi harus berpihak kepada kebenaran dan perlu bersikap 'netural' ertinya menjadi pendamai / 'orang tengah?' Apa yang terjadi di Perak ialah 'terjadinya pencemaran terhadap perlembagaan. Sepatutnya..Dewan Negeri perlu dibubarkan menurut undang-undang tubuh negeri; ketiga-tiga ADUN dah menghantar surat perletakkan jawatan..dan dah diterima oleh Dewan Speaker dan dah diputuskan ianya 'SAH' olehnya lalu mendapat sokongan majoriti ADUN. Ketiga-tiga ADUN tersebut kalau tak setuju ...maka mereka harus mencabarnya dalam mahkamah. Tetapi mereka tak lakukan.
Selagi mahkamah belum membuat sebarang keputusan maka perletakkan jawatan ketiga-tiga ADUN tersebut dikira masih sah dan Pilihan Raya harus dilakukan.
Yang misterinya kenapa ketiga-tiga ADUN tersebut tak mencabarnya dalam mahkamah terlebih dahulu.
Kenapa pula dikatakan BN memperolehi majoriti mudah sedangkan ketiga-tiga ADUn tersebut dah meletakkan jawatan dan mahkamah belum membuat keputusan tentang kes mereka.
Ini bererti Pakatan 28; BN 28
3 ADUN bebas tak boleh dikira sebab dah meletakkan jawatan.
Kenapakah tiada undi usul percaya di adakan Dewan Negeri terhadap MB Nizar? Sebab BN dah tahu BN dan Pakatan akan 'draw' keputusannya. Pakatan 28 - BN 28 = 0; Jadi jawapan yang tepat ialah BUBARKAN DEWAN DAN adakan PilihanRaya. MB Nizar dah tahu jawapannya"Pembubaran Dewan Negeri"

Kalau BN menang, mereka perintah tapi kalau PR menang..mereka perlu membentuk kerajaan PR di Perak.
Akhirnya...kita tidak boleh salahkan sesiapa pun dalam hal ini. Sperti sepasang suami-isteri kalau nak lanjutkan kebahagian rumahtangga mereka maka perlu bersikap tidak saling menyalahkan di antara satu dengan yang lain,...sebaliknya, mencari jalan penyelesaian demi kebahagian rumah tangga mereka.
I was so ashamed whenever there is a parliamentary sitting aired live. The quality of those elected is so low I wonder how the parliament can actually function. There are racists, there are sexists, there are opportunists, there are religious bigots, there are chauvinists of all sorts and when you put them altogether, the parliament becomes worse than a fish market.
One cant wait to switch off the television. His Royal Highness is correct to say the quality of many of our politicians is low. Is there anyway we can send them back to school? Or at least give them a proper orientation of what is expected of elected representatives.

Chun Wai, why are you not publishing the comments that are critical of UMNO and the sultan? So much for free speech and democracy.
it is not only the sultan is sad, me me, citizen of malaysia, i am sad also,
i am sad bcos our sultan of perak didnt allow the re-election.
yet i respect on his decision ,
we know our sultan is sad over recent happening,.
but does the sultan knows we are sad as well?
I'm still very confuse here. Is it not a protest against the decision made by HRH Sultan Perak. It's against the decision not the person. Is it wrong ?
Sad over what? the rude behavior of the protestor towards the Sultan of Perak, or the "way" the state govt was changed? or the low quality of our elected reps, or the death of democracy?
I think all sultans and governors should take cue from HRH Sultan Selangor who had already stopped awarding titles especially to politicians. Some of them just do not deserve it. HRH Sultan Perak, I'm sure, has regretted giving "Dato' Seri" to Nizar when he was just two months old in the office.
Winning hearts and minds:
For the past 6 to 12 months, one could see a concerted effort by a few Sultans to win the hearts and minds of the rakyat, and to be seen as fair, and to be the check and balance to the government of the day. Well, in at least two states. The past week's events may post a set back to their efforts. Their perceived alignment to UMNO may unravel whatever has been achieved. UMNO has been seen by many to be corrupt, authoritarian, abusive use of the intruments of government, and not respecting the rule of law. UMNO has made no efforts to win the hearts and minds of the Rakyat, and prefers to bulldoze the Rakyat and opposition parties, just because they have the power to do it, not caring if they are lawful or not. It would not be good for the royal family to be seen to side UMNO. They should always remain neutral, and act as the ombudsman to instil sanity into Malaysian politics, which has gotten to be mad, trivial, corrupt, abusive,racist, chauvinistic, ..and many more negatives. They should rein in some of these terrible politicians of both sides, in order to build up their image. It is a lot harder to build than to destroy.
