Kalimullah Hassan leaves NSTP

Datuk Seri Kalimullah Hassan has tendered his resignation from the New Straits Times Berhad as deputy chairman. The letter was reportedly submitted to the NSTP board on Sept 3 and if accepted would take effect on Dec 31. While Kalimullah's decision has only been reported today, he has made known of his readiness to quit his post a few times in the past. His post in NSTP, which he regarded as a national service, has never been an easy one. He started his journalism career in the Straits Echo in Penang before joining The Star and Straits Times. He was also a correspondent for Singapore's Straits Times before his entry into the corporate world. NSTP chief executive officer Datuk Syed Faisal Albar also announced his decision to leave the company recently. No replacement has been named to Syed Faisal's post until now. It is not clear whether there will be changes, at the editorial and corporate senior levels, at the NSTP and Media Prima Group, which operates TV3 and NTV7, next year.

the whole lot of top level executives has turn private tv channels into gold mine; but unfornutely the editorial has lost its credibility and influence on rakyat due to the focus on pure entertainment...still not too late but some heads must roll

All Badawi"s henchmen and spinmakers will have to leave sooner or later. Good riddance

With the UMNO warlords and factions fighting, I can imagine the NSTP to be a hot area with many umno politicians calling the editors up to want them to maniputlate news to their favour, and probably shouting at them when they get negative news, or even no news. I guess this also probably happens in STAR as well but maybe not to such extent as NSTP. I look forward to the day when ALL political parties are not allowed to own or control any media companies.

All Badawi's and KJ's people got to leave NSTP to make way for Najib's and Mahathir's people.
NSTP is UMNO's company, and management executives are appointed by the UMNO power of the day.

It makes no difference who are running NSTP. We are not going to read their papers, nor their online news. And we don't watch TV3, nor RTM,and any of the UMNO/Government run media. No sir, it makes no difference.

We don't give a damn who are appointed to run NSTP. The news on their papers are not worth the paper it is printed on. They are so desperate to sell their papers now that they have hired kids to run along road dividers, trying to push the malay mail to passing motorists. Even if you give me free NST or Malay Mail, I can't be bothered to read them. And I definitely won't watch TV3 or TV7. Why would I want to waste my time reading or listening to crap from umno? The readership of NST and Malay Mail has plunged off the cliff. Having new editors there won't make any difference.

Please save the trees and close down NSTP. The "news" from NSTP are full of crap.

No need to replace the executives that left. Just close shop lah, because we don't want to read their papers. They already know the falling readership. Now they even hire young boys to risk their limbs in heavy traffic to push the MalayMail from the road dividers and running between traffic lanes. So blady desperate already to stem the erosion of readership. Even if they hire new executives, the readership will still head south, because UMNO will keep insisting that NSTP just print crap and propaganda, and slanted "news". The paper is so crappy, it is not even clean enough to hold kachang puteh. Not even as toilet paper.

Chun Wai, your STAR paper is doing well only because your only other competitor NST is so crappy! They should just close down NSTP. They don't print news, but just UMNO propaganda. I hope STAR will not become like NST or Utusan.

Anon 10.06 and 10.32 could well be the same person, but get your facts right. Malay Mail is no longer part of NSTP. In April 2008 the NSTP management decided to sever all ties with the paper that used to be the company's biggest earner by selling it to former Bernas MD, Datuk Ibrahim Mohd Nor.

Three new Polls on UMNO Elections: -
1. Who do you want as the new Youth Chief for UMNO?
2. Who do you want as the new Deputy President for UMNO?
3. Should Members of Barisan Nasional converge to form a Single MULTIRACIAL Party?

To those who wish for NST to close down. What good will that do? It'll just result in Star having practically no competitor - and that's NOT a good thing.

It'll be hard for anyone who will head NST. Since it's an Umno-controlled newspaper, and since Umno is now riddled with various factions, the person in charge will lose hair and become `botak' before the next General Elections.

But whatever, I sincerely hope NST will recover from its current anaemic position and climb UP. Oh, put in quality people, have quality writers plus enough working capital and NST will stop the slide.

It's a LONG climb. But it's not an impossible task. Hopefully, the politicians won't be too dumb by imposing unreasonable pressure. If they don't want to see NST sie a death of a thousand cuts, that is.

Sinnersaint:Saintsinner,

Spot on, Sir! If Rocky goes to NSTP and the people who sued him and his blog have left, there is hope for the NSTP. He did some great things with the Malay Mail last time.

But will they dare put someone like Rocky there?

And will Rocky want to go back to NSTP, is the question really ..

Who is Malcom Rozario?

Chun Wai, We don't give a damn who is going or coming in NSTP. Whoever runs the show in nstp just need to toe the line of the incumbent leader of umno. Yeah we don't give a f&*@ about nstp. To give business to nstp is to give money to umno, and that is an absolute no no.

Yup...rocky..at a cross road.

To test the water, he delibrately posted 2 articles on his blog in supporting of Utusan to gauge the support.

Unfortunately, he didnt get the signal that he was looking for. Instead got a bashing for talking thrash. Just like those in NST.

Well, it is the ultimate job except working for the devil and selling your soul.

Now to be or not to be? that is the question.
