Jalan Alor is now Jalan Kejora? What a crap!

With all the excitement of last week's political events, I missed one piece of minor but important news item - the DBKL has decided to rename Jalan Alor, the favourite food haunt of people in Kuala Lumpur, and tourists as well - to Jalan Kejora. What was on the mind of the road naming committee when they decided to make this stupid move? Did they even bother to consult the food operators, businessmen and residents there? Don't they realise that Jalan Alor is an international name? The DBKL has came up an unconvincing line to justify the decision to rename the road, saying it had to "meet the requirements of the road naming guideline." What requirements and guidelines are they talking about? For another perspective, read Meiyen's take here. Let's hope Federal Territories Minister Datuk Zulhasnan Rafique, who is an open and fair-minded person, will put things right by keeping the name Jalan Alor.

For once, I agree with WCW. Jalan Alor is now Jln Kejora. And they quietly changed it. How could some be so balless?

Perhaps Alor is too chinese. They should rename Alor Star to Kejora Star too. Wait, Star is too english ....

DBKL got nothing to do?

Perhaps DBKL has some extra budget that they need to finish spending. So why not have a "program" to change the street names? Then they can give out contracts to change the street signboards, print more stationary, print updated maps, then charge the shopowners more money when they want to change shop signboards, then give out contracts to IT companies to update the database due to change in addresses, then they may even hold festivals in that area for "Festival of the Stars" except it is nothing to do with movie stars, but the venus type of stars. Yes, DBKL wants to spend more of our money! Whatthe heck, maybe DBKL may want to change the name of Kuala Lumpur as well, since the name is so muddy. Maybe KL should be changed to Mars or something like that, so that we KLites can all be aliens. ( I wonder where their brains are located.)
P/S Meiyen, you usually give terrible and obviously very bias and pro-BN comments. But your Kejora comment is admittedly an excellent one.

Crap....Dato Wong you are giving those pricks too much respect. Those are idiots OK. Yes idiots who gives blur and fuzzy excuses to justify silly actions. Of course they don't know the answers. Tell the Jln Alor residents to ignore the change.. hold on for another 4 years. We will vote away those bastards down memory lane.

In Wikipedia, Jalan Alor shows up under the Hawker Centre category for Singapore and Malaysia. It is notable that while the island republic has so many centres (never mind that their food is nothing compared to ours), under Malaysia, only Jalan Alor is mentioned. Zul, please take a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawker_centre

good question, wcw.

not the first time though and neither will it be the last.

anyway, the quilow street names are more or less all gone. its part of the re-writing of history, I guess.

they can deny for all the world cares. action speaks louder than words.

stupid people doing the stupid job. If you cannot perform, leave your job and let other people take over.

stupid DBKL director. Try to do other useful thing rather than wasted tax payer money on this monkey business.

What do these d*ckheads in DBKL care
about history of the nation or the significance of a name. Ego and wastage are only in their hollow heads. To them, anything new means achievement and old is vintage and not in line with UMNO's thinking. Petty minds achieve petty things.

Bro. Wong, It seems that this is not only point that you had missed last week. The other one was the xenophobia resulting from the statement by Gerakan Wanita Chief Tan Lian Hoe who had claimed that Malays are Indonesia immigrants. In contrast to your harsh and strong responses to Dato' Ahmad Ismail insinuation on chinese immgirant, this time remark by Ms. Tan passed peacefully under your nose without you touching it. Was it deliberate?

Anonymous said...

No lah, I think WCW not deliberate. He just travelled back from USA, then he probably had to clear a mountain of crap sitting on the desk, then MCA aspiring "leaders" insisted he must go to this and that function, and every candidate wanted him to write a piece of news. Doesn't matter as long as he "hentam" those "f**K&@s" with the brains at the wrong end for doing a stupid job. Better late than never. So now WCW, can you get the UMNO idiots to go study history? It lok like they don't know where their parents or grannies come from. They think they were all born in a golden cradle in a kingdom called putrajaya.

BlueMoon said...

Rightfully the Alor's issue is crap compared to a statement by Tan Lian Hoe. Now its the chinese who called Malay as immigrant. Are you going to label Lian Hoe as racist in the way you did to Dato' Ahmad Ismail?

I think DBKL is up to mischief again. A lot of effort and money have been spent promoting KL and Jalan Alor is part of this Visit Malaysia and Malaysia truly Asia.

With one stroke of stupid, blind mindless civil servant action, voila. The government can do several things.

1. Sack the Mayor of KL. It should do this to teach civil servants to think before doing stupid thing.

2. Return KL to Selangor.

Anonymous said...

That name "Jalan Alor" has been in use for years, if not decades.

To change it now will definitely cause massive confusion all round.

This is the stupidest action, bar none. Whoever made this decision to change the road name deserves to be sacked for acting like a thoughtless, inconsiderate idiot.

2 possibilities for the name change of roads:
1) We have idiots in the DBKL who have nothing better to do except doing stupid things that cause confusion, loss of history, and economic cost
2) People up to mischief so that they can spend the budget (our tax money) allocated to them for questionable objective.
We should sack this datuk bandar. Does he know he is causing a lot of damage? Why can't he spend the money cleaning up the backlanes, repairing the streets and pavements, clearing clogged drains, repairing broken drain covers, ridding the place of rats and cockroaches, fumigating the mosquitoes.. there are so many things that need attention, but no no this ass**&^ must spend the money to do stupid things.

Bluemoon, OK everybody im Malaysia is a pendatang, where the various pendatang arrived at different time, and intermarry, and adopted various religions. So now everybody should be OK to be called pendatang. Just like the Americans and the Australians, all are pendatang. So we should no longer have laws that discriminate the some of the pendatangs. The government should focus on integrating all the various communities into one big happy family. But then if that happens UMNO cannot stay in power because they exist by purposely formenting racial tension, because they follow a divide and rule strategy.

Do the people in DBKL worship stars, or believe in horoscope? That is against Islam teachings. How else can we explain their fascination for stars? And why the fascination for kejora (venus) ? All are they planning to turn Jalan Alor into one big Gelang or Patpong?

Anonymous said...

Can anybody tell me where the name "Alor" ( as in Jalan Alor) comes from? Is it the name of some famous person, or what?

Anonymous said...

Why is the Gov so afraid to allow the rakyat (KL) to appoint its own mayor? Then we would not end up in this situation where we have a mayor that has very little (if any) up there!!! Time for a change... and I am not talking about renaming Jalan Alor...

What kinda idiots do we have running DBKL??? You don't change the image of KL by changing the name of a well known tourist spot to a nobody-knows-what-the-hell-it-is name. They should use the resources to clean up KL, make the streets safer from crime, make the streets more pedestrain friendly, make it safer to cross the streets, improve public transport, restore heritage buildings, preserve history (not destroy history!), and we could go on and on with so many things that need attention. Changing colonial names to some stupid venus or mars cannot turn back the clock, nor does it make anybody more patriotic. All the people who made the decision to change the names of the streets should be sacked because it shows that they have no otak. The datuk bandaraya should be sacked too. We need clever and responsible people to manage KL. We want people that can focus on the important things to do, and not waste our tax money on frivolous things that only destroy our heritage and cost us our tax money.

How our DBKL waste our money:
1) Changing street names for no good and valid reason.
2) Putting up ugly "sculpture" at round abouts and other public places that look more like junk, and at exorbitant prices that look very fishy.
3) Making broad road dividers, then breaking them down to make them narrower, "due to heavy traffic", as if they didn't know that traffic would be heavy when they make the broad traffic dividers.
4)planting exotic imported palm trees when Malaysia got zillions of home grown palm ( LDP, near Bukit Kiara junction).
5)planting tall bushes at junctions and roundabouts that obscure the view of on-coming traffic
6)planting trees in front of road signs, then cutting it down again or moving the roadsigns.
7) Installing metal drain and manhole covers, and metal road signs, knowing full well they will be stolen. Why can't they install concrete ones or strong plastic ones?
8) Awarding contracts to bad contractors that make "concrete" drain covers that collapse soon after. Don't they know how to make proper concrete drain covers?
9)Hiring law enforcers that don't do their job, so laws are not followed. This is especially so in the area of public health. Garbage and rats are everywhere. Drains are clogged up everywhere. Drain covers are clogged up everywhere.

The list could go on forever and ever. WHat a bunch of good-for-nothings. The mayor or datuk bandar should be elected by us KLites, not appointed the federal govt. This is another failure of the UMNO govt.

A shame, they changed the name. Now I have to change a lot on my website (www.malaysiasite.nl)

Anonymous said...

Whatever DBKL does, you got to check one layer beneath to sniff out some rotten motive. Usually it has got to do with money and contracts somewhere. All day long they sit down to think how to waste your tax money.

Anonymous said...

I propose that we change the name of Jalan Alor to Jalan Tikus to reflect the abundance of rats there. The DBKL has done nothing to get rid of the rat population. The new name will be a constant reminder to DBKL what it should be doing.

They are at it again. Just nothing better to do. Why dont the KL Mayor just take a walk around the streets of KL especially the around the eateries and take a good look and see how filthy the 'lonkangs' and walkways are instead of just sitting in his office and making stupid statements.

The only KL mayor I know who did this was Elyas Omar many years ago and true enough drastic change did take place.

Hello Mayor, your KL city is filthy, clean it up first before making silly decision like this...

Hmmmm...that give me an idea. I will start a GPS system company..that's it. With the new system, my company will liase with DBKL and see to it that the road map get updated to the precision of every milisec i.e. whenever DBKL came out with self-declare brilliant idea of road naming when they are pissing in the litter box, we will see to it that the road name be change accordingly. I have a feeling in Melaka there is gonna be a road sign "Shah Ruh Kangkong" anytime soon...very soon.

I started a campaign against the name change from Jalan Alor to Jalan Kejora this morning. In only half a day, the campaign has generated more than 30 members who are against the name change. This is the site:-

There are a lot of unhappy people out there and we hope our voices would be heard.

Thank you.

this is another one of the many stupid decisions made by dbkl. im starting 2 wonder which part of the body do dbkl authorities use as a brain? how stupid can they possibly get? wats the highest academic level of all dbkl workers? nursery or primary school? wat the hell is kejora? kejora, dat sounds so BN, purely rubbish.

This is the reason why city mayor should be an elected official. Make him be accountable to the public and not to politicians.

Secondly, where are our opposition YBs. Why are they so quiet? There are so many of them in KL.

Anonymous said...

Chun Wai, we have idiots running the local councils. What more can we expect. They are so idiotic that we have no words to describe them. God help us.

Anonymous said...

There are lots more significant and important issues in Malaysia worth discussing and you GUYS want to bising about ONE JALAN NAME?...

Haiyahhh..got nothing else to complain have to resort to this is it?

Pathetic betul

Anonymous said...

When those in power cannot use their brain effectively this would be the outcome. Because they simply want to be in spotlight. Perhaps the called Mayor's expensive visit is what caused the name changes.

See how stupid you all can be.. fighting over a street name??

come on la.. grow up..

make malaysia a better place to live in..

find more usefull alternative to improve ecomomy & harmony.. rather than fight over street name.
